Escondido murder may be gang related

ESCONDIDO — A 27-year-old man was found murdered early Wednesday morning, according to the Escondido Police Department.

EPD responded to a call of a possible gang related shooting at 12:30 a.m. in the area of Escondido Boulevard and 9th Avenue. At the scene, officers discovered the unresponsive man, who sustained a gunshot to the head.

He was transported to Palomar Medical Center where he later died.

According to the EPD, witness saw the victim walking south on Escondido Boulevard just before the shooting. The suspect, meanwhile, was seen exiting a vehicle and firing multiple shots at the victim before getting back in the car and fleeing the scene.

The car fled west through the south alley of 9th Avenue. The suspect was reportedly wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, while the car is a white, four-door older model similar to a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla.

Three addition people are believed to have been in the car during the shooting. EPD is investigating the case and anyone with information is urged to call EPD at (760) 839-4722 or anonymously at (760) 743-8477.
