REGION — Five San Diego County library branches will host virtual tours of various state parks today to celebrate their recent increases in internet connection speeds.

The Potrero, Descano, Alpine, Spring Valley and Lemon Grove libraries will each host a videoconference tour of a different park with a state park representative, allowing participants to ask questions during each tour.

The tours include Anza Borrego Desert State Park, La Purisma State Historic Park, Columbia State Historic Park, Angel Island and Point Lobos State Reserve.

The county is hosting the events to celebrate its recent connection to the California Research and Education Network.

The fiber optic broadband network spans 3,800 miles across the state and increased internet speeds at the county’s library network up to twenty-fold at some branches.

“These faster internet speeds will allow our customers to be more productive and access information more quickly, evening out the playing field for those who only have access to the internet at the library,” said Migell Acosta, the county’s library director.

The events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Potrero Library, with each subsequent tour staggered throughout the day. Addresses and hours for all of the county’s libraries can be found at sdcl.org.
