SAN MARCOS — Gate proceeds from Palomar College’s Pacific Coast Athletic Conference women’s/men’s basketball double-header on Feb. 2 will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The special fundraiser, to be held at the Palomar Dome, is part of a joint statewide effort initiated by the California Community College Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches associations.
The event features the Palomar women’s team, under the direction of Coach Leigh Marshall, versus Imperial Valley at 5 p.m., followed by Coach John O’Neill’s Comet men against San Diego Mesa College at 7 p.m.
“We are asking our community to help us sell out the Dome for this special event,” said Director of Athletics Scott Cathcart. “It provides a perfect opportunity for our basketball teams and our institution to interface with the community in a cause that truly deserves all of our support.”
Funds from the individual events at colleges throughout the state will be pooled into one large donation from the California Community Colleges Athletic Association men’s and women’s basketball coaches.
A presentation of the donation to representatives of the American Cancer Society is planned for the state championships at Ventura College in March.
