Classic ends before stormy weather hits

CARLSBAD – Despite winds picking up, and before any rain moved into the area, Yani Tseng, the 23-year-old talent won the 2012 Kia Classic Sunday, shooting 14-under-par over the four-round tournament at La Costa Resort and Spa.Tseng is ranked No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and on the LPGA Official Money List. She beat runner-up Sun Young Yoo (8-under 280), and Jiyai Shin (7-under 281).
With the win, Tseng becomes the second-youngest LPGA player to secure 15 career LPGA titles. The Kia Classic is Tseng’s third LPGA win in five 2012 LPGA events this year, her sixth LPGA win in her last 12 starts, and her ninth LPGA win in her last 19 starts.
Carlsbad resident Jennifer Johnson finished the tournament T25 at 3-over-par, and Rancho Santa Fe resident In- Kyung Kim finished T43 at 6-over-par.
