OCEANSIDE — Car collectors and lovers of Americana flocked to the classic American car show at the Mission Bazaar parking lot Sept. 25.
More than 150 custom detailed Chevrolets, Pontiacs, Plymouths, Dodges and other pre-1960 American automobiles were on display at the show sponsored by Viejitos Car Club.
“I’ve never seen this before,” Frances Meinz, of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, said. “It’s about my age, 80 years old, and all the cars we use to have.”
A dozen car clubs from San Diego County showed off their finest custom auto work that included hydraulics, spotless engines, mirrored hood liners, chrome accessories and custom-painted bodies.
In addition to the rows of cars on display, there was live entertainment by Tito Pantoja, a hydraulic contest, food vendors and carnival games.
The event also featured education resource booths for high school and college students. “The theme is health and education,” Victor Banuelos, Viejitos Car Club member, said. “We bring low riders out to bring the youth out.”
Palomar College, United Education Institute, MANA and Volunteers 4 You were on hand to share career opportunities with youth. “We just want youth to know to stay in school,” Banuelos said. “Mechanic schools are out there.”
