City hosts local hike

SAN MARCOS — The city of San Marcos Community Services will sponsor a Discover San Marcos Hike to Sunset Park at 9 a.m. June 5. Hikers will visit the 19-acre Sunset Park and explore the trails in the west portion of the city. Sunset Park, the city’s newest park, opened to the public in late February 2010. The park is located near the corner of Poinsettia and La Mirada Drive and has rolling hills with views of the ocean.
The hike is free and no advance reservations are required. Hikers should meet at 8:30 am at Bradley Park, 1587 Linda Vista Drive in San Marcos. The hike is mostly flat with a few small hills. The 4-mile route will be on city streets and urban trails.
An adult must accompany any minors. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended, and bring water and trail snacks. Dogs must be on a maximum 6-foot leash at all times. For information on hikes or the city’s trails, visit www.san-marcos.net or call (760) 744-9000, ext. 3508 or ext. 3535.
