City gets greener during Public Works Week

ENCINITAS — The city of Encinitas Public Works Department invites the public to take an educational tour of the Public Works facility, 160 Calle Magdalena, from noon to 2 p.m. May 20. Representatives from the city of Encinitas Public Works Department and San Dieguito Water District will explain how they maintain the city’s infrastructure. This event is being held during National Public Works Week.
Program highlights will include a special tree planting dedication at 12:15 p.m. in observance of Encinitas Arbor Day 2011. Encinitas Council members will be in attendance at this observance, which will include the planting of an African Sumac donated by West Coast Arborists, Inc.
In addition, the event will include demonstrations on the public water system at work, how defaced street signs are cleaned, how rain water moves through the drainage system and out to the ocean, wastewater collection and disposal, and how city fleet vehicles are repaired and maintained. Water and environmental conservation will also be showcased.
