Chamber installs new officers, thanks outgoing leaders

OCEANSIDE — The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce celebrated its annual installation and awards luncheon June 23.
The 2009-2010 Chairman of the Board of Directors Allen Coleman, passed the gavel to Debbie Allen, marking the end to Coleman’s leadership and the ceremonious start of Allen’s year. Chamber Chief Executive Officer David Nydegger took time to introduce former chamber presidents in attendance, who included Mary Steiger, Colleen O’Harra, Marva Bledsoe, Ollie Speraw, John Lusignan, Jerry Salyer and Bruce Tait.
Outgoing board members also recognized were Suzan Bolski, Rick Manwaring, Jacque Martin, Liz Rhea and George Brown.
Honored at the event were Volunteers of Year from the California Welcome Center. Johanne Iske and Courtney Voorhees were chosen for their service and dedication to the center.
Business of the Year was awarded to Chuck Ward of Abbey Carpets. It was noted that Abbey Carpets, in addition to being a long established and successful business, has been a long-time supporter of nonprofit organizations for many years.
The Community Service Award was presented to the Oceanside Boys and Girls Club with Tammy Walz accepting the plaque on behalf of the organization. The Oceanside Boys & Girls Club has a long-standing record in the community supporting Oceanside’s youth.
Jacque Martin presented Jay Anderson, president of Operation Homefront, a $3,500 check raised from the chamber’s 10th annual Golf With a Hero Tournament.
Pastor Hal Seed swore in the 2010-2011 Board of Directors: Debbie Allen, Marva Bledsoe, Allen Coleman, Chip Dykes, Fayrene Erickson, Camo Gleisberg, Vladimir Medvinsky, Man Lai Tam, Bruce Tait, Sunny Goodwin, John Lusignan, Jerry Salyer, Don Reedy, Colm Kelly, John Pryor and Pam Rumer.
Debbie Allen said she was honored to be in the company of men and women who continue to give back to their community. She noted this was a year of transition for both the chamber and the Welcome Center and invited those in attendance to visit both venues.
