Carlsbad teen suffers severed arm in crash

CARLSBAD — A 19-year-old woman suffered a severed arm Wednesday morning after a traffic accident, according to the Carlsbad Police Department and media reports.

The unidentified woman was involved in a single-vehicle collision at 3:46 a.m. on Cannon Road east of Hemingway Drive.

A witness told police the woman was unable to negotiate the turn due to her speed, which caused the 19-year-old and her scooter to collide with the center median and then striking the traffic control sign.

According to the CPD, the woman suffered “significant” injuries to the left side of her body. Officers and fire personnel provided medical aid to the woman, placing a tourniquet on her to stop the bleeding.

She was transported to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla then to the University of California, San Diego Medical Center.
