OCEANSIDE — An apparent murder-suicide was discovered July 4 in a town home on the 5100 block of North River Road, after neighbors asked police to check on the couple because they hadn’t been seen in about a week, authorities said.
At about 5 p.m., police forced entry into the home and discovered the bodies of Tyrone Knight, 53, and his wife, 46-year-old Vanessa Knight.
According to the Oceanside Police Department, a note was found, allegedly written by the husband, which stated he had killed his wife, and then himself.
Police said the note was dated June 24, 2011, and that the decomposition of the bodies was consistent with the note’s date.
The bodies were found in separate rooms, and a handgun was located at the scene.
Lt. Leonard Mata, of the Oceanside Police Department, said that the deaths are an apparent murder-suicide based on preliminary findings. The couple lived alone in the house.
Next of kin was located July 5. The investigation is ongoing.
