Beachfest coming to Carlsbad

CARLSBAD — The city of Carlsbad Beach Preservation Committee will sponsor the fourth annual Carlsbad Beach Fest from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 4 at Frazee State Beach at Pine Avenue. The event is free and open to the public. A complete schedule of events is available at CarlsbadBeachFest.com.
“The goal of the event is to highlight our coastal playground as an irreplaceable resource, and to show appreciation for its beauty and value,” said Tammy Urie, special events director for the Carlsbad Village Athletic Club, which is helping to organize this year’s event.
Featured activities and attractions will include:
— A low-tide beach fun run/walk
— An underwater cleanup led by Legoland’s Sea Life Aquarium’s Dive Team and hundreds of scuba volunteers
— An on-beach cleanup
— Demonstrations by champion sand sculpture artists Archisand
— Multiple stages with bands and live entertainment
— Lifeguard demonstrations
— Sports competitions in paddle board, surfing, beach volleyball, beach soccer and ultimate frisbee
— Yoga and Zumba fitness on the beach
— Interactive educational booths
— Green vendor displays
— Artists exhibits
— Food and beverage vendors
The event is presented by California State Parks in partnership with the Carlsbad Village Athletic Clubs, the Friends of Cardiff & Carlsbad State Beaches, and the city of Carlsbad Beach Preservation Committee to benefit Carlsbad’s State Beach Parks and the Carlsbad community.
