SAN DIEGO — A North County defense attorney who was accused last year of secretly filming women and at least one girl at a tanning salon in Escondido pleaded guilty to four charges in a San Diego courtroom June 20.
David Taylor Kaye, 43, was arrested in January after a nearly yearlong investigation that led police to charge him with secretly videotaping seven women — and at least one teenage girl — while they were undressing.
His guilty plea resulted in a probation sentence of three years, according to the prosecuting District Attorney, Annette Irving.
“He can’t possess pornography of any sort,” Irving said. “He’s not allowed to possess a phone with any camera functions.”
Kaye will also be required to attend sex offender treatment and must stay away from tanning salons as part of his parole sentence.
The misdemeanor charges Kaye pleaded guilty to include two counts each of secretly filming a person and peeking through a private area, Irving said.
Kaye has remained out of jail since posting bail on $388,000 shortly after his arrest.
Kaye was originally charged with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of having a concealed firearm in a vehicle, three counts of secretly filming a person, four counts of peeking through a private area and one count of destruction or concealment of evidence, according to previous reports.
The victims remain unnamed for privacy reasons, Irving said.
Police said evidence that led to Kaye’s arrest was found on his phone and computers.
Kaye was admitted to the California Bar in 1994 after graduating from UCSD and Thomas Jefferson School of Law, San Diego, and operated a private practice family law and criminal defense firm.
