Are you the best cook at the fair?

DEL MAR — The San Diego County Fair wants to give you the chance to be the next TV food show star. To celebrate its 2010 theme, Taste The Fun, the fair is having a live cooking contest called the Next Food TV Star. If you have a dynamite food specialty, not only will you have the chance to create it in the fair’s state-of the-art competition/demonstration kitchen, but you’ll also be judged on your showmanship and pizzazz.
Applications for the contest will be taken through May 19. Eight finalists will be chosen by May 31 to do a live culinary demonstration at the fair’s Tantalizing Tour of Tastes Exhibit. They will be chosen based on written essay, photo, completed entry form and recipe. The winner will return to the fair July 5 to do a “show” before a live fair audience, and will walk away with $1,000 and a professionally taped demo to help them become the Next Food TV Star.
Detailed information and contest entry forms are now available online at www.sdfair.com/entry.
The theme for the 2010 San Diego County Fair is Taste the Fun, which highlights local agriculture, producers, culinary arts and all things related to food. The fair will run for 22 days opening June 11, and closing on July 5. The fair will be closed the first three Mondays, June 14, 21 and 28.
