Action sports athletes unite for Encinitas event

ENCINITAS — On May 23, The Encinitas Chamber of Commerce will present A Sporting Life — Get In The Game featuring legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk with some of the world’s best action sports athletes as they perform hair-raising tricks and routines on Hawk’s own halfpipe ramp.
In addition to Hawk there will be 25 world-class athletes, the San Diego Sockers, The San Diego Friar and all kinds of games and activities for children and their parents. There will be three bands and more than 50 vendor booths. More than $5,000 in raffle prizes will be given away during the day.
Three local charities will receive proceeds from this event and they are Rancho Coastal Humane Society, Fresh Start Surgical Gifts and Star/Pal.
The event will take place on the upper field at Oak Crest Middle School in Encinitas between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 with an $8 ticket price for military and seniors. Children under 5 are admitted free. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Tickets may be purchased at the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce office, which is located at 859 Second Street.
There will be free shuttle service between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on the day of the event from MiraCosta College. Parents wishing to drop off their children ages 12 and older may do so at the Boys & Girls Club of San Dieguito, at the entrance on Encinitas Boulevard just west of El Camino Real.
