SAN DIEGO — 10news.com reports that a construction crew unearthed a 3-million-year-old whale fossil at the San Diego Zoo.
The zoo released a statement that said that the crew was using an excavator and hit a hard spot while digging for a storm water tank.
The baleen whale fossil is 24-feet long and was verified by a paleontologist from the San Diego Natural History Museum. The fossil was well preserved and an intact skull was also found.
