CARLSBAD — On Jan. 20 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Carlsbad Police were called to the 7100 block of Sitio Bahia regarding a suicidal subject. A 31-year-old male told his mother and brother that he wanted to kill himself.
The subject reportedly took a large amount of prescription medication and consumed a large amount of alcohol. He then went to his bedroom where he kept firearms and told his family members that he wanted to have a violent confrontation with the police department. The family members became fearful and hid in the residence.
Officers arrived and talked with other family members outside the residence.
The suicidal man remained in the residence despite officer’s attempts to get him to surrender. The patrol unit called the department’s SWAT and crisis negotiations teams to aid in the incident.
At approximately 1:10 a.m. and after numerous attempts to communicate with the subject had failed, the SWAT Team entered the residence and took the subject into custody without further incident.
No one was injured during the incident. The subject was transported to Tri-City Medical Center for an evaluation.
