ENCINITAS — For 21 years, Encinitas Parks and Recreation Department has sponsored the city of Encinitas 5K/1K race.
This year, the city has combined those races and what used to be known as the Feeling Fit Festival into one autumn event: the Moonlight Beach Fest.
The event takes place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at Moonlight Beach, 400 B St.
On event day, the parking lot will be closed and street parking on Second and Third Streets will be off-limits. However, parking is available on Fourth Street south of E Street to I Street, at City Hall, the Encinitas Community Library, the Coaster Station and along Highway 101.
The Feeling Fit Expo features vendors offering healthy and active products and services, as well as lots of activities for children and live music.
The races head out through beachside downtown Encinitas. The 9 a.m. 5K (3.1-mile) flat, fast, USA Track and Field-certified course begins and ends at the beach area, traversing downtown Encinitas. The 1K begins at 10 a.m. The races can accommodate both high-level racers and runners or walkers just out for a good time.
Live music will add to the atmosphere for participants and spectators and runners and walkers can enjoy free refreshments along the way. Registration is available in advance and on the day of the event. Expo and race details, including registration, can be found at encinitasca.gov/index.aspx?page=351.
So lace up your walking/running shoes, grab your sunscreen and get ready to begin a new tradition by participating in what is certain to become an iconic Encinitas event. See you at the Moonlight Beach Fest!
