College showcases musical talent

OCEANSIDE — MiraCosta College has planned a lineup of concerts set for October. All concerts, highlighting the best of student performances, will be held on the Oceanside Campus, at 1 Barnard Drive. Tickets can be purchased at miracosta.edu/buytix or by calling (760) 795-6815.First, a vocal concert: “Hearts and Hands and Voices,” is set for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13, in the college Concert Hall, Bldg. 2400. This special performance brings together the MiraCosta Chamber Choir and Masterworks Chorale with special guests to present an evening of music celebrating the history of choral singing from early music to the cutting edge of contemporary choir compositions. It will be directed by Arlie Langager.

The Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and at 3 p.m.

Oct. 20 in the Concert Hall, Bldg. 2400. The MiraCosta College Symphony Orchestra will present an evening of music influenced by the Romantic culture of the Italian peninsula including Tchaikovsky’s “Capriccio Italien” and Respighi’s “Fountains of Rome.” It will be conducted by Branden Muresan.

A Frequency Jazz sneak peek is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 in Studio A, Bldg. 2200. Get your first look at this year’s Frequency Vocal jazz ensembles. This preview concert will be the first on-campus performance for the vocalists and instrumentals, and will prepare the ensembles to perform at the Cuesta College Vocal Jazz Festival in November. The director is Matt Falker.
