Animal shelter celebrates adopt-a-dog month

COAST CITIES — October is National Adopt-a-Shelter Dog month, and the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA is celebrating with Barktoberfest, which will offer special events and activities throughout the month of October.For the entire month, adoption fees at the Oceanside Humane Society shelters for all adult and senior dogs are reduced to $10 and adopters will receive a free pumpkin from Pumpkin Station.

Promotions throughout the month include:

— Adopt a Pup: Adoption fees for all adult and senior dogs (ages 7 months and older) are just $10 and include a free pumpkin from Pumpkin Station (while supplies last)

— Fit Your Pup: Dog owners will receive 30 percent off Sense-ation harnesses from the San Diego Humane Society’s retail store, Muttique (the discount will be increased to 50 percent when you trade in your choke or prong collar for a cozy Sense-ation harness)

— Spoil Your Pup: Free microchipping and engraved name tags for dogs.

— Blessing of the Animals –11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19 at North Campus, 2905 San Luis Rey Road, Oceanside.

— Pit Bull Ambassador Workshop, 2:30 to 4 p.m. Oct. 12, at Central Campus, 5500 Gaines St., San Diego will address many of the myths surrounding pit bull mixes and offer tips and tricks to help current and future owners help their dog to becoming breed ambassadors.
