CARLSBAD — Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation has lots going on as the fall season arrives.The lagoon foundation now offers the Discovery Center, 1580 Cannon Road, as a site for birthday and other parties. Call (760) 804-1969 for more information.
Next up is the Carlsbad Art Splash Sept. 28 and Sept. 29. Taste of Art Splash tickets are available at the center for $20. Half goes back to the foundation in support of the lagoon’s sensitive ecosystem. The free family event features chalk art, live music and entertainment for all ages.
In addition, for a donation, you can win a backpack rack donated through a Boy Scout project. If you can use it for a classroom or daycare, contact AHLF at (760) 804-1969.
The center is also selling tickets for the 31st annual Rotary Oktoberfest from noon to 10 p.m. Oct. 5 at Holiday Park. Tickets for dinner are $10 per person at the Discovery Center or $12 the day of the event. 25 percent of the dinner ticket funds purchased at the Discovery Center go back to the AHLF in support of the Lagoon’s ecosystem.
Dive in to the third annual Paddle Poker Challenge from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19 beginning at Agua Hedionda Lagoon. Entry is $35 and includes a costume contest, lunch and a fun paddle on the water to various stops in the lagoon to build your poker hand. Children are welcome and encouraged to participate. Every year pirates and lagoonatics create costumes and support the fundraiser. Proceeds from the event go to the ongoing operations and community

Watch Lincoln and Winston, the center’s bearded dragon lizards have a scrub during Critter Bath Time every Thursday at 4 p.m. Come out and see how they take a bath and help feed them after.
Some batty good fun is at hand with upcoming Bat Chats from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Discovery Center featuring children’s book author Janelle Cannon, author of “Stella Luna,” plus a craft and an actual live bat.
For some lagoon serenity, consider yoga classes held at the center: 9 to 10:15 a.m. every Saturday through October. The first class is free, then $11 for walk-ins, $50 for a five-class pass.
Discovery Center hours are now Tuesday through Friday 2 to 5 p.m., weekends noon to 4 p.m. and closed Mondays.
