Encinitas man shot during argument

ENCINITAS – Deputies from the Encinitas Station responded to the 700 block of West Bluff Drive for a reported shooting. 

Upon arrival, they found the victim, 41-year-old Peter Byrne, had sustained a single gunshot wound to the lower hip area.

Byrne told the deputies an acquaintance of his, 32-year-old David Kaufman, had shot him after an argument. Byrne was transported by air ambulance to Scripp’s La Jolla Hospital for treatment.

Kaufman was later located and arrested by Sheriff’s deputies. Kaufman was arrested and transported to the Encinitas Station for processing.

The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the Encinitas Station Area Detectives.
