Supermoon shines over San Diego

Photographer Daniel Knighton captures last weekend’s supermoon on Sunday as it peeks out from behind some nighttime clouds over San Diego. The supermoon event June 22 and June 23 was the closest encounter between the Earth and the moon. The moon won’t be as close again until August 2014.

I was in lucky enough to be in Alpine away from all the city lights (with the exception of the casino that is out there) during the supermoon event and it was absolutely breathtaking. I sat outside under the moon and stars with my family and just took in the beauty of the night sky as it was illuminated by this supermoon. I can’t remember the last time (if ever) I saw the moon so big and bright, almost like seeing the sun shining at night, and I am glad someone got a picture of it that does it justice. I tried to get a picture of it myself, but unfortunately a combination of lack of photography skills and not having a very good camera prevented me from getting a good photo of it. Thank you for sharing this great photograph of the supermoon, it was an amazing thing to see and I am glad I can show it to friends and family who missed it by forwarding this page to them.
