ENCINITAS — Olivenhain Municipal Water District, in partnership with San Dieguito Water District, is hosting in March a free series of water-efficient landscape workshops for landscape professionals. OMWD and SDWD are offering these workshops in an effort to increase awareness of efficient irrigation management. The focus of water conservation is now on outdoor water use efficiency because up to 80 percent of residential water is used on landscape. Efforts are made to encourage residents, homeowners associations and businesses to investigate the possibilities of a lush landscape that uses less water and requires less maintenance, creating a demand for landscape professionals trained in California-friendly landscape design and irrigation principles. The end result can save time in maintenance, and money on water bills.
The first of four workshops will be held from 5 to 8:15 p.m. March 5 at SDWD’s office, 160 Calle Magdelena. Registration is required; area residents may register themselves and/or their landscape contractor by calling (760) 633-2676 or visiting olivenhain.com/events.
The subsequent workshops will occur March 12, March 19 and March 26. This workshop series will be held primarily in English with a bi-lingual, Spanish-speaking instructor. Attendees have the option of selecting a manual in English or Spanish.
Each workshop builds on principles presented in the preceding workshop, but prior attendance is not required for subsequent workshops. Students begin with basic irrigation principles and conclude with irrigation scheduling. Participants who attend all three courses will receive a certificate of completion. This workshop series will cover Irrigation Principles, Adjustments and Repair, Irrigation System Troubleshooting, Controller Programming, and Irrigation Scheduling.
