COAST CITIES — Registration begins March 11 for summer camps at Birch Aquarium.The camps at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, are designed for youngsters ages 4 through 15, to inspire understanding and stewardship of the ocean and its inhabitants.

Experience live animal encounters, hands-on activities, and field excursions for an entire week or just a day. Camps feature ocean creatures, gooey dissections, the remarkable world of sharks, adventures in oceanography, and the chance to learn how to surf and snorkel.
Birch Aquarium’s Summer Learning Adventure Camps are accredited by the American Camp Association. Information about Summer Learning Adventure Camps as well as class descriptions and dates can be found at aquarium.ucsd.edu.
Camp opportunities include:
— Sea Slugs – Pre-K to kindergarten, week-long, half-day camp; $210
— Ocean Playground – grades one and two, week-long, half-day camp; $210
— Ocean Explorers Camp – grades two and three, week-long, full-day camp; $365
— Shark Encounters – grades four through six, week-long, half-day camp; $255. Snorkel with local sharks and meet Scripps Oceanography shark researchers.
— Surfing Into Science – grades seven through nine, week-long, full-day camp; $395. Go snorkeling and kayaking to observe animals that share the waves with us.
