CARLSBAD — David Claxton and Dillon Lerach, seniors at Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad, were honored Nov. 17 as Eagle Scouts, the highest rank of the Boy Scouts of America, at a private ceremony at the Rancho Santa Fe Community Center.Claxton, a third-generation Eagle Scout, has been involved with Boy Scouts of America since the age of 5. For his Eagle project, Claxton built a shrine honoring the Virgin of Guadalupe at the Church of the Nativity in Rancho Santa Fe. His project was created in an effort to encourage Mexican immigrants to feel welcome to use the church as a source of prayer and refuge.

Lerach began his scouting career as a Cub Scout in first grade and has since earned 37 merit badges. For his Eagle project, Lerach undertook an environmental and neighborhood beautification project, renovating trails at the Point Loma Native Plant Garden, part of the San Diego River Conservancy.
