Mainly Mozart to open RSF series at the Crosby in 2013

RANCHO SANTA FE — After several years of performing at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, the Mainly Mozart series will open their 2013 season at The Crosby Estates while the Inn undergoes $12 million worth of renovations. The Inn is anticipating a finish date by Memorial Day 2013.

Mainly Mozart Associate Director Tyler Hewes said they are very pleased to be at the Crosby where they’ll perform for the first time beginning Jan. 13.

The series, which has been performing at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe since 2006, has become a fan favorite with Ranch residents.

“We heard from people that really wanted it back at the Inn, and we definitely wanted it back at the Inn,” Hewes said, “but with the Inn’s new management and their renovation they just couldn’t accommodate us this season. But we’re already talking to them about next season,” he added.

With the Crosby venue, the series will be able to remain in Rancho Santa Fe.

“The Ranch is really important to us,” Hewes said. “Our following in the Ranch is strong. We feel really connected to the community and so we always wanted to make sure we were still in Rancho Santa Fe even though the Inn just didn’t have the ability to have us there this year.”

The seating capacity at the Crosby will be similar to what was available at the Inn. Hewes said they can easily accommodate 200 people in the Crosby’s clubhouse where the concerts will be held.

“We’re very pleased to be at the Crosby and it’s wonderful that we were able to secure that space as an alternative venue, but the Inn has been our heart and we’re sad that we’re not there this year. But we’re really thankful to our friends at the Crosby for making it work.”

In addition to their five performances at the Crosby, Mainly Mozart will continue their series at the Auditorium at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla and at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Carlsbad, where the series has been performed since at least 2004.

Mainly Mozart will also be kicking off their orchestra series with a gala opening night June 8 at the Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe.

The season opens with Schubert’s Trio in B flat, D. 471, and Mozart’s Divertimento in E flat, K. 563 with violinist Yura Lee, Cynthia Phelps on viola and cellist Peter Wiley.
