Sparkle and snow come to Botanic Gardens

ENCINITAS — San Diego Botanic Garden presents its annual Garden of Lights holiday event from Dec. 8 through Dec. 23 and Dec. 26 through Dec. 30 from 5 to 9 p.m. As the sun goes down, the San Diego Botanic Garden will be transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland with more than 100,000 sparkling lights. Leave the hustle and bustle of the malls behind and enjoy a relaxing evening strolling through the lighted Garden.Enjoy winter fun in the snow Dec. 8 through Dec. 13 and again from Dec. 26 through Dec. 30. Bring your own sled (no metal runners, please). In addition, live music fills the air nightly from 6 to 8 p.m. One night there will be the Peace on Earth Christmas carolers, while another night features Mariachis. Beginning on Dec. 15, a team of big Blond Belgian draft horses will provide wagon rides through the lower area of the Garden, the only way to see the lights in this part of the Garden at night.

Huddle around the campfire to roast marshmallows. Santa will greet young and old alike each night before Christmas from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Gazebo.

To keep our guests warm, there will be hot mulled wine in the Lawn House Garden for purchase. Additionally, The Coffee Hut will be offering hot coffee and cocoa, and supplies to make S’mores. Hungry? El Pollo Loco will provide healthy Mexican fare each night.

Children can create a variety of special holiday crafts to take home in the Ecke Building, home to the Nutcracker Exhibit displaying a collection of 50 nutcrackers. There will be additional fees for some activities.

Admission is $6 for members, and non-members tickets cost $12 with children 3 to 12 $4 and under 3 free. Parking is free.
