Young thespians shine at PACT

ENCINITAS — Positive Action Community Theatre (PACT) rolls out its new singing group for teens and adults with disabilities from 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 22 at Dance North County, 535 Encinitas Blvd., adding to its on-going improvisational theatre group for teens and adults from 2:30 to 4 p.m. These two eight-week cycles of programs will conclude Nov. 10 at the organization’s annual PACT House Showcase with a performance and cast party for participants, family and friends.Since 2008 PACT has been offering inclusive performing arts programs to individuals of all ages with disabilities in the Coastal North County area, although some families travel from as far as Chula Vista and Valley Center to participate. PACT’s performing arts programs are a great place to make new friends, cultivate artistic talents, and learn life skills like self esteem, cooperation, fitness, and creativity. In addition to theatre and its new singing group, PACT also offers inclusive dance workshops periodically throughout the year.

All PACT programs are inclusive, consisting of an approximately 50/50 combination of peers with and without disabilities. Mostly those served with disabilities have autism, but children, teens, and adults with all disabilities are invited. Workshop directors are educated and experienced not only in the performing arts but in helping those with disabilities be all they can be. And PACT is always looking for good volunteers.
