ENCINITAS — On Aug. 25, our community of Encinitas will be having its annual Relay For Life event sponsored by the American Cancer Society at the San Dieguito Academy at 800 Santa Fe Drive. The relay goes from 10 a.m. Aug. 25 until 10 a.m. Aug. 26 and invites friends, families, sports teams, school classmates and individuals to walk together or in a relay. The Survivor’s Lap event starts at 10 a.m. and the time of the remembrance event, called The Luminaria Ceremony, starts at 9 p.m.
“The Relay For Life provides cancer survivors, friends and family a chance to celebrate the lives of people who are currently facing the cancer challenge or who have won their battle,” said three-year cancer survivor and Cardiff resident Wayne Wieboldt.
“It is also a time to remember loved ones lost to cancer and the opportunity to fight back against this disease by raising funds for cancer research.”
Although this is a 24-hour event, participants may stay for as long or short a time as they choose. There will be camping areas available for tents and there will be a family atmosphere with food, games and entertainment.
