North County students earn health-care scholarships

COAST CITIES — Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Foundation awarded scholarships for the 2012/2013 school year, to six North County students interested in pursuing careers in the health care field. The awards were presented July 18 at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.This year’s scholarship recipients are:

— Nancy Bravo and Sabrina Patterson of El Camino High School. Bravo will be attending Mira Costa College and Patterson will be attending Cal State San Marcos. Both will enter into the nursing program at their respective schools

— Cindy Quiroz of Torrey Pines High School. Quiroz will be attending Point Loma Nazarene University and would also like to become a nurse.

— Kehli Marr-Allen of Sunset High School will attend Mesa Community College. Her goal is to receive a certificate as a physical therapy assistant.

— Rebekah Chung attended Carlsbad High School and will study to become a nurse at San Diego State University.

— Melissa Servin is in her second year at Cal State San Marcos and received a renewal of her scholarship. She also plans to become a nurse.

The scholarship program was developed by Leonard Polster, a supporter of both Scripps La Jolla and the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito. The program is now in its ninth year.
