COAST CITIES — Assistance League of North Coast received a grant of $10,000 from the Boys and Girls Foundation Board of Directors. The grant is to be used to expand the Clothing for Children, Footsteps and Health Kits programs, which serve at-risk students in Oceanside, Carlsbad and Vista.Without this grant, ALNC would have been unable to start the project at this time. Part of the grant will also be used to expand the number of children served during the school year by the ALNC’s Footsteps/Health Kit Programs at schools with a high level of poverty. ALNC provided more than 750 students in 33 elementary schools with new shoes during the 2011-12 school year. With each pair of shoes, students were also provided socks and health kits containing personal hygiene items. Uniforms and emergency clothing were also provided by ALNC at 36 different schools to more than 700 students during last school year.
The mission of the Boys and Girls Foundation is to identify, support or create programs which provide preventative services or direct care to abused, neglected and at risk youth in San Diego County. The grant received by Assistance League of North Coast will help fund the Vista Clothing Children Project being started this year for homeless children.
More than 5,700 people were served by ALNC in 2011-12 through programs that provided new shoes for 800 children, school uniforms for more than 500 students, new books for 30 elementary schools, more than $50,000 in requested funds for computers and iPads for elementary schools.
