Del Mar art heats up

DEL MAR — When you think of art, fire is not usually the first thing at comes to mind. It is, however, a central element in many of the works on view at the Del Mar Art Center. Meet the artists who are heating things up at a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Del Mar Art Center Gallery, Del Mar Plaza, 1555 Camino Del Mar, Suite 122.Libbie McMahon “paints” with powdered and crushed glass which is then fired to create her unique series of island-inspired wall pieces.

Ed Eginton uses fire to create his whimsical ceramic ocean-life wall tiles.

Artist Robert Glick harnesses fire in addition to paint to construct his seven-foot-tall human portrait “Carol-Ann On Fire.”

Other featured artists include watercolorist Don Coordt, mixed media artist Pamela Fox Linton who incorporates found objects into her paintings, and painter/photographer Bruce Stewart whose work promotes marine conservation.
