YMCA rolls open new skate park

ENCINITAS — Stone Flats, a new restaurant concept that opened in June in Encinitas, will host the grand opening party to benefit the Magdalena Ecke YMCA’s new skate park. The event, will runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 12 and feature activities for the whole family.There will be gift card giveaways, samples, children’s activities and skaters signing autographs. Stone Flats will offer Free Flatbread Pizzas all day long, with a minimum $5 donation. All donations will go directly to the new skate park, which will be renovated this fall. The new Skate Park will remain unique with wood, cement and skatelite construction and will feature an expanded “Mini-Land” skate lesson area for ages 3 and up, refurbished bowls, renovated street course and expanded spectator area for easier visibility of the entire park.

A traditional ribbon-cutting will be held 5 p.m. introducing YMCA Financial Development Director Emily Figueiredo, the YMCA Skate Park staff and Stone Flats President Brad Mason.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Magdalena Ecke YMCA on this fundraising event,” said Mason. “The YMCA is truly the heart of Encinitas, and supporting their skate park is a great way to reach out to our new community and show them Stone Flats’ desire to give back.”

YMCA Skate Park Director Roberto Trada said, “This park is here for our community so it is wonderful to see support for this worthy project from local businesses and residents.”

The Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA has put Encinitas on the map through involvement with skate pros such as Tony Hawk and Shaun White. The park sees 19,000 visitors each year and current renovations come with a total cost of $680,000. They are expected to be complete in the fall of 2012.
