COAST CITIES — The Del Mar-Leucadia Branch of the American Association of University Women honored two California State University San Marcos students at a luncheon at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club.
The AAUW Scholarship winners for 2012 were Christa Baldwin and Joanne Menchaca. Each honoree received a scholarship of $1500 from the branch.
Baldwin, a first generation college graduate, is a re-entry student pursuing a multiple subject teaching credential, an education specialist credential and a master’s in education. She holds a baccalaureate degree in psychology.
Menchaca is a sophomore pursuing a bachelor of arts in liberal studies and a multiple-subject teaching credential. She is the first person in her family to attend college.
Membership in the American Association of University Women is open to all graduates who hold an associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. The national organization, founded in 1881, advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. The local branch, founded in 1955, serves the North Coastal communities of Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Encinitas, Olivenhain, Leucadia and La Costa.
