AARP offers driver safety course

COAST CITIES — School’s out for summer but AARP Driver Safety educators are still busy. AARP Driver Safety is offering an Educator Appreciation promotion. From July 1 through Aug. 31, all current and retired educators and school personnel are invited to take a driver safety classroom course for just $5.Locations for the course include:

— El Corazon Senior Center, at 12:15 p.m. July 13 and July 20 at 3302 Senior Center Drive, Oceanside. Call (760) 435-3500 to register.

— The Carlsbad Senior Center, 12:30 p.m. July 19 and July 26 at 799 Pine Ave., Carlsbad. Call (760) 602-4650 to register.

— McClellen Vista Senior Center at 12:30 p.m. July 31 at 1400 Vale Terrace Drive, Vista. Call (760) 639-6160 to register.

— San Marcos Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. July 9 and July 11, 111 Richmar Ave., San Marcos. Call (760) 744-5535 to register.

The AARP Driver Safety course teaches valuable defensive driving skills and provides a refresher of the rules of the road. Since 1979, the course has also helped over 14 million drivers learn proven safety strategies and tips for how to adapt one’s driving to compensate for physical and cognitive changes that may come with aging.
