The Magic did make things interesting late in the fourth quarter after trailing for the entirety of the match, they came within scoring the tying goal with only minutes left before benches cleared following a scuffle with Ze Roberto and Magic goal keeper Jason Jacob. Officials ejected Jacob and Sockers midfielder Majell Aterado.

“It was a great game,” said head coach Phil Salvagio. “It’s the playoffs, so nobody’s ever out of it,” he added.

Salvagio expects the final against Detroit to be a really good game. “Detroit is a step above (the Magic); they gave us a hard time. It’s going to be an excellent game and it’s going to be for the championship, so everybody’s going to be at the top of their game.”

Salvagio was named, earlier this week, the Professional Arena Soccer League Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. He coached the team to a perfect 16-0 regular season, the first time ever in the history of the league that a team finished the season without a loss.

Also capping off honors for the season include league-leading scorer Kraig Chiles being named league MVP in back-to-back years. Chiles, with teammate Brian Farber, Ze Roberto and Riley Swift were named to the all-PASL team.

The Ron Newman Cup Championship will conclude Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Del Mar Arena.
