Maria de los Angeles “Angelita” Alvarez
Maria de los Angeles “Angelita” Alvarez was born on March 1, 1921 in Mexico City, she was born to Mercedes Guzman and Francisco “Pancho” Alvarez. She was the youngest of 6 siblings, Samuel, Trinidad “Trini”, Mercedes, Clara, and another brother that was lost at war during one of Mexico’s Revolutions, she was too young to remember him. Our Grandma married at the age of 18 and had 9 children – First born was Micaela (she passed away when she was 2), then Emma, Vicky followed, then Lidia, then Sergio, Miguel, then Benjamin, Arcelia (she was less than a year when she passed away), and the youngest Raul.
In 1955 my grandma left Mexico City and came to the United States with her friend Dories. She lived in North County since she came to the U.S. but has lived the majority of that time in Cardiff.
Our grandma was a hardworking, responsible, independent, and a courageous woman.
Our grandma was a devoted Catholic and would attend St. John’s Catholic Church in Encinitas. She was a part of the Guadelupanas at St. John’s and would volunteer her free time to the church until she could.
She passed away on Tuesday, October 4th, 2011 at Encinitas Scripps Hospital with her children and most of grandchildren by her side. She has 24 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
She will be very missed for all those who knew her.
