Youth program teaches respect for others

CAMP PENDLETON — The Devil Pups Youth Program For America annual encampments are being hosted on baseJuly 21 through July 30.
During 10 days of challenge, teamwork, discipline and education, boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 17 learn cooperation and respect for the dignity of others, regardless of race, creed, color or national origin.
The nonprofit youth program is conducted in two separate 10-day programs, each with approximately 350 participants.
Activities include conditioning exercises, first-aid instruction, leadership classes, organized recreation, a bivouac (camping out) and swimming. The program is not a “mini boot camp,” para-military or recruiting organization for the Marine Corps.
A highlight of the encampments requires the devil pups to build their confidence by jumping off a 35-foot tall platform into a pool.
