Starcrafts bookstore is hosting the first-ever Midsummer Mandala fundraising event June 23. The event is presented by 24/7, a charity organization that assists animals, children, homebound people and senior citizens who aren’t able to care for themselves.
Luanna Swaney, spokesperson for 24/7, said that once people learned about the upcoming Midsummer Mandala event, businesses around the community asked to join the efforts to help.
“Starcrafts is donating their book store to hold the event. A drumming group is donating their performance. We’re receiving donations of items for the live auction, silent auction and raffle. People have been so generous,” Swaney said.
Auction items will include artwork, a quilt, jewelry, gift baskets and various services. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. where participants will create a mandala of prosperity and celebration. The Mandala represents wholeness, and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure, Swaney added.
Tickets for the event are $7. 100 percent of the proceeds and monetary gifts will be donated to Helen Woodward Animal Center.
Starcrafts will also be holding another event June 25, with portions of the proceeds going to the Woodward Center, too.
Auction items are still being accepted at the Starcrafts location. Donations are tax deductible. For more information call Barb Otto at (760) 859-7353. Starcrafts book store is at 6195 Lake Murray Blvd., Suite E.
