OCEANSIDE — As part of its 10-film, winter-spring series of foreign and independent films, the North County Film Club will screen “Mao’s Last Dancer” from 4 to 6:30 p.m. June 5 at the UltraStar Mission Marketplace, 431 College Blvd.
“Mao’s Last Dancer” is directed by Academy Award nominee Bruce Beresford and tells the true story of Li Cunxin and his extraordinary journey from a poor upbringing in rural China to international stardom as a world-class ballet dancer. Based on Cunxin’s autobiography, “Mao’s Last Dancer” weaves a moving tale about the quest for freedom and the courage it takes to live one’s own life. This film is rated PG.
This is the eighth film in the series, with a screening of “Winter’s Bone” next at the UltraStar Mission Market Place Theater, 431 College Blvd.
