Carlsbad keeps kids busy at summer camps

CARLSBAD — City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation is offering three new camps for tweens and teens in June as part of its summer camp program.
Camp Aloha takes campers ages 6 to 12 on a virtual vacation to Hawaii through activities that explore the rich culture of this beautiful state. Learn to hula, how to make traditional leis, crafts and play games. Family and friends are invited the last day to watch a traditional luau and receive leis handmade by their children. Camp meets from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 20 through June 24 at the Harding Community Center, 3096 Harding St. Cost is $150 for Carlsbad residents, $160 for non-residents.
Tween Glee camp for ages 9 to 15 is inspired by the hit television series. Campers will sing current and classic pop songs “Glee-style.” On the final day of camp, family and friends are invited to a final performance. Camp meets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 27 through July 1 at the Harding Community Center, 3096 Harding St. Cost is $150 for Carlsbad residents, $160 for non-residents.
Green Screen Technology Camp puts campers ages 8 to 14 in the middle of action, using the same technology that brings special effects to blockbuster movies. Campers learn how to script, film and create a movie using cameras and computers. Camp meets from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 20 through June 24 at the Stagecoach Community Center, 3420 Camino de los Coches. Cost is $150 for Carlsbad residents, $160 for non-residents.
