Rady’s hosts Destinations 2011 fundraiser

COAST CITIES — Mark your calendars. The theme and date of this year’s Glamourama fundraiser for Rady Children’s Hospital is set. The Destinations 2011 event will be held 6 to 10:30 p.m. May 13 at the La Costa Resort in Carlsbad.
Glamourama, Destinations 2011, presented by the North Coast Unit of Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary, embraces a travel theme. Unit “flight attendants” will greet guests and “passport stamps” will be issued upon arrival. The fundraiser will showcase up to 12 local vendors and a live silent auction, as well as a performance by local artists, Mango and Dango.

This year’s event chairperson is Erika Hill, and Clint Bell has been named auctioneer. During the last 10 years, the Glamourama event has raised more than $1 million for Rady Children’s. According to Laura Stearn, chairperson of the North Coast Unit, “All funds raised from Glamourama 2011 will benefit the Sam and Rose Stein Emergency Care Center, which provides emergency services to as many as 250 children a day.”
Stearns’ 8-year old son Nicolas received life saving emergency open-heart surgery at Rady’s in 2002.
The 36-bed Emergency Care Center of Rady Children’s Hospital is the only designated Level 1 trauma center for pediatrics in the region. It provides credentialed pediatric emergency physicians, nurses and staff 24 hours a day and an optimum environment for comprehensive emergency care to children throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties.
Event sponsors include Melvin R. Goodes Foundation, Dr. William Umansky and Wells Fargo, the private bank.
