String of events planned through Woodward Center

RANCHO SANTA FE — The Helen Woodward Animal Center offers an array of activities through June for all animal lovers.
The center hosts Take An Orphan Dog To Work Day on the third Wednesday of each month.
Dog lovers are invited to take an orphan dog out of the kennel and into your office April 20, May 18, June 15, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21, Oct. 19, Nov. 16 and Dec. 21. As the weather warms, it is time again for Surf Dog Clinics 10 to 11 a.m. March 27, April 16, May 21, June 18, July 17, Aug. 6, Aug. 13 and Aug. 20 at Dog Beach in Del Mar. The classes are in preparation for Helen Woodward Animal Center’s sixth annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon on Sept. 11. Registration is limited to 25 dogs per clinic and one dog per human. The 11th annual Pet Day on the Bay at Hornblower Cruise sets sail at 10 a.m. May 14. Bring your dog, $20 and guests are encouraged to donate a towel or blanket to the Embarcadero on May 14. The center’s 23rd annual Spring Fling is set from 5:30 p.m. to midnight

The Woodward center is always looking for volunteers age 14 and up, with orientation sessions set for 9 a.m. to noon March 19, May 14, Aug. 6 and Oct. 8. Additional helpers are needed for the 2011 Summer Critter Camp. Applications are being taken for Junior Volunteers ages 13 through 17 years of age. All applicants must be entering ninth grade in the fall of 2011. The Critter Camp application deadline is April 22. If you are a party maven, then volunteer for the annual black-tie gala Spring Fling fundraiser June 4. Some assignments include table service, registration, cashier, bartending, cocktail service and more. Volunteers must be 21 years of age or older. Animal lovers can also be pet foster parents through Helen Woodward Animal Center. Foster families provide care for orphaned pets that are too young to be adopted or have special medical needs. Helen Woodward Animal Center kennels and cattery are open to the public every day, from noon to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with adoption applications accepted until 5:45 p.m. at 6461 El Apajo Road.
