Man found guilty of child porn

ENCINITAS — The jury reached a guilty verdict on March 9, one day after the trial closed for an Encinitas man who was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.
The trial stemmed from a child pornography Internet sting that took place nearly five years ago.
Michael Douglas, 36, was found guilty on all counts against him, which included three counts of distributing child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography and a misdemeanor charge of attempting to send child pornography to a minor.
After the verdict was read, Douglas was immediately taken into custody.
He will be required to register as a sex offender and may receive a minimum sentence of probation, and up to a maximum term of five years and eight months in state prison, according to Deputy District Attorney Keith Watanabe.
Watanabe said that Douglas shook his head in disbelief when the verdict came in, and that his mother and aunt continued to proclaim his innocence.
Douglas is expected to be sentenced on April 6 in Department 25 of the San Diego County Superior Court Vista Regional Center.
