Tri-City Medical Center Cancer program receives national accreditation

OCEANSIDE — Tri-City Medical Center has received national accreditation for its comprehensive cancer program — a status bestowed on just 1,400 cancer treatment facilities nationwide.
The American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, or CoC, grants accreditation only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to provide the best in cancer diagnosis and treatment and are able to comply with established Commission on Cancer standards. The Commission on Cancer Accreditation Program encourages hospitals, treatment centers, and other facilities to improve their quality of patient care through various cancer-related programs. These programs focus on prevention, early diagnosis, pretreatment evaluation, staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, surveillance for recurrent disease, support services and end-of-life care.
Patients who receive care at a CoC-accredited cancer program hospital or facility are assured of receiving:
— Comprehensive care including a complete range of state-of-the-art services and equipment
— A team approach to coordinate the best available treatment options
— Information about ongoing cancer clinical trials and new treatment options
— Access to prevention and early detection programs, cancer education, and support services
— A cancer registry that offers lifelong patient follow-up
— Ongoing monitoring and improvements in cancer care
— Quality care, close to home
Recognizing that cancer is a complex group of diseases, the CoC Cancer Program Standards promote a multidisciplinary approach that results in improved patient care. Tri-City received a three-year accreditation with Commendation.
“It is wonderful to have our team recognized by the Commission on Cancer,” said Radiation Oncologist and Tri-City Cancer Committee Chairperson Anuradha Koka,. “The staff and physicians have worked very hard to achieve this recognition and the community will benefit.”
