ENCINITAS — A beautiful winter day surrounded the turnout of art patrons for the opening reception of “Coastal Explosion: The California Style” art exhibition at 540 Cornish Ave. hosted by The San Diego Museum of Art- Artists Guild.
“Coastal Explosion: The California Style” is a collection of original art work by The San Diego Museum of Art-Artist Guild members. The show will run until Feb. 28, and feature paintings, sculpture, drawings, pottery, photography, and jewelry.
“What is particularly interesting about this show is that the artists are choosing their own work to display,” said Jane Darin, president of the Artists Guild.
The guild was established in 1915 with a mission to enhance the cultural profile of San Diego County through support of the San Diego Museum of Art. The guild exhibits and sells artwork through an online gallery at www.sdmaag.org, an annual Fine Art Festival, and other events, with a percentage of each sale going to support The San Diego Museum of Art program acquisition of art for the Museum’s permanent collections, and funding for their children programs.
“I am thrilled to be able to meet and ask artists about their work,” said guest Elaine Marty. “It is such a nice, informal atmosphere, allowing one to pose questions that link the artist to his or her work.”
