COAST CITIES — MiraCosta College is celebrating the Year of the Rabbit with free events planned from Jan. 28 to Feb. 11.
A special performance by Asian Story Theatre will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 28 in the MiraCosta College Theatre, 1 Barnard Drive. The event mixes traditional costumes, live music, audience participation and martial arts. This performance is provided to benefit students from the Mandarin Enrichment Program of the Fallbrook School District, but limited seating will be open to the general public.
Children grades kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to a Story Time & Cultural Crafts Chinese story time and will learn how to make Chinese lanterns with MiraCosta College Chinese Club students from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Carlsbad Cole Library, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad.
An Alternative Healing and Energy Healing Fair will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 1. in the Club Room, in the Student Center on the MiraCosta College Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive.
Meet alternative healing providers from the area and learn about several Chinese traditional methods to improve health and well-being.
A Chinese Dumpling Workshop is set from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 2 in Aztlan A, in the Student Center on the MiraCosta College Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive.
The Chinese Club invites you to learn how to make your own authentic Chinese dumplings. The event is limited to first 30 guests.
Chinese New Year College Hour Presentation is planned from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Feb. 3 on the lawn at the center of the Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive and again from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Feb. 10 at the MiraCosta College San Elijo Campus, 3333 Manchester Ave., Cardiff.
Enjoy free food and watch a traditional Chinese costume fashion show from Tang and Qing Dynasties. The Chinese Club will have a booth where you can get your name written in Chinese.
At 11 a.m. Feb. 5 will be a Chinese Paper-Cutting art and book fair at Barnes and Noble Bookstore, El Camino North Shopping Center, 2615 Vista Way, Oceanside.
Enjoy a special story time for the Chinese New Year and make your own paper-cutting art invented during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.).
There will be a showing of “The Blue Kite” (China, 1993) at 1 p.m. in Room 204 at the MiraCosta College San Elijo Campus, 3333 Manchester Ave., Cardiff; and 7 p.m. in Room 3601 at the MiraCosta College Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive on Feb. 11.
MiraCosta College’s International Film Series presents this epic look at recent Chinese history and the effect political changes have on personal lives.
