Kids Marathon Mile set for Jan. 22

CARLSBAD — The Kids Marathon Mile, a fun run/walk geared for children ages 12 and under, is set for Jan. 22. The one-mile, age-staged races start at 8 a.m. and loops through Legoland California.
The noncompetitive event is open to people of all ages. “Moms, dads, siblings and friends can participate in this healthy activity together,” said Christine Adams, chief executive officer of sponsor, In Motion, Inc. “The children love the opportunity to dash through Legoland.”
The Marathon Mile will help schools raise funds through its Run for Your School Program. If there are at least 10 entries from a particular school, the entrants from that school automatically become members of a school team and the school will receive $2 for each paid entry.
Held during the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon race weekend, the Kids Marathon Mile will also feature a Diaper Dash for babies who still travel on all fours and a free family exposition with entertainment and activities. The Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon is scheduled for Jan. 23.
Every registered child in the Kids Marathon Mile will receive a finisher’s medal, T-shirt, and a free one-day Child Hopper Ticket to the Legoland California and Sea Life Aquarium, in addition to one free UltraStar Cinemas child’s admission movie pass and popcorn and a goodie bag full of treats and coupons.
The registration fee for the Kids Marathon Mile is $20 per child prior to Jan. 15, 2011 and $25 thereafter. Event-day registration starts at 7 a.m. Adults have the option of registering at full price and receiving an event T-shirt or registering as a companion.
