Torrey Pines volleyball star chosen by Northeastern

RANCHO SANTA FE — Torrey Pines High School senior Alexa Armstrong has been recruited to play volleyball at Northeastern University in Boston by Head Coach Ken Nichols.
Armstrong will come to Boston after serving as a three-year starter for TPHS where she was named 2008 Most Improved Player. The 6-feet-tall middle blocker played her club volleyball with Encinitas Wave, and was the lone starting junior for the squad that was ranked in the national top 10 throughout the season by
Armstrong helped lead her high school team to the 2009 San Diego CIF Sectional Division Championship and a third place finish in the Southern Sectional CIF tournament. She was named 2010 All CIF-San Diego section, Division I selection – First Team All CIF, as well as 2010 San Diego CIF Division I Palomar League Player of the Year and was given the 2010 Torrey Pines High School Girls Varsity Volleyball Golden Falcon award for Most Valuable Player.
