ENCINITAS — Inclement weather did not stop more than 300 dads and their sons from accomplishing a feat know as the World’s Longest Chain of Beads.
Nov. 20, the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA Adventure Club’s Falcon Nation attempted to land a spot in the records books for successfully attempting to string together 350,000 beads at Vail Lake in Temecula.
Recognized by the Guinness Book of Word Records, father-son teams of the YMCA Adventure Clubs program strung thousands of beads together to stretch record-breaking necklaces more than 1.1 miles long, shattering the previous record by more than half a mile.
“This was such an amazing event for everyone involved in the Adventure Clubs program,” Tommi Mann, YMCA Adventure Clubs director, said. “To see all the smiles on each person’s face was even more meaningful than being in the Guinness Book of World Records. This is why the Adventure Clubs Program is so special, spending time with your family and making life-long memories.”
Beating the record was a challenge, and Falcon Nation participants spent more than five hours stringing beads, with each father-son tandem responsible for a 25-foot section. The culmination resulted in hugs and cheers, as dads and braves held up 1.1 miles of beads representing a memorable day of bonding.
